A couple of weeks ago we made our way down to Oceanside, CA for a quick family getaway. This is something we rarely do. Given that my family lives on the east coast, whenever we travel it’s usually to visit them. We had a really busy summer with tons of travel. We went to Nashville, Rehoboth Beach, Arizona and finally Oceanside. Let me know show you around a little bit and tell you more about why this was the perfect quick getaway for our family.
It all started with a 2-ish hour drive down south. Without traffic it would have been faster, but hey, it’s LA. ???? We stopped at Pizza Port for a late lunch by the water and omg even the change of temperature alone felt like vacation. When we finally pulled into our garage (yes, this property had a shared 2-car garage with dedicated parking), we were itching to get inside and see where our new home away from home would be for the next 2 days.
We walked down this narrow outdoor corridor with the ocean just steps away and basically opened the door to heaven.
WHAT?!? I felt like I needed to pinch myself. How was this even real life? We couldn’t have been any closer to the ocean if we tried, and immediately there was overwhelming sense of calm.
We had no plans, nothing to do, no one to see, so naturally we headed straight to the beach.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been on the beach during a sunset. It’s truly magical. Even if it’s not the most amazing sunset ever, there’s something so special and liberating about it.
Ava couldn’t get enough.
If that’s not pure and utter joy, then I’m not sure what is. Zoe was equally as happy, just not interested in getting wet. ????
After a couple of hours on the beach, we headed inside for warm showers and an easy family dinner. I had run to the grocery store to grab some food for the weekend and we had a big cheese/snack board for dinner which is my favorite way to eat, especially when on vacation!
The girls were then off to bed, and Zach and I were left to this…
We spent the evening wrapped in blankets, sitting in those big comfy chairs, playing backgammon and drinking wine. PERFECTION.
The constant sound of the ocean was so soothing, and once you closed the windows you could just barely hear the ocean as you drifted off to sleep.
I gotta say, I’m the farthest thing from a morning person, but I couldn’t WAIT to wake up and go sit in those chairs.
At 6:30am I woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed, wrapped myself up in that cozy blanket and enjoyed the quiet morning by myself. Now THIS was actual heaven.
At around 7am I had my first visitor.
And at around 7:15am I had my second.
This is one of my favorite mornings to date.
Once Zach got up it felt like home. That’s my favorite part about booking through VRBO, the homes feel like home. We never had to leave for a meal, it was comfortable and truly felt like home away from home.
We ate breakfast and got ready for the day. We made plans to meet up with some friends who lived close by for a day at the beach. We drove maybe 1 mile down the road to a little spot called Buccaneer Cafe which is a small, beachside cafe with delicious food. There was a park on one side and the beach on the other! Our friends have two little girls as well, so our kids played, we hung out and let’s just say it was glorious.
After our day at the beach, we headed back “home” for one last sunset evening outing.
Our place was feet away from this little street that lead to the Oceanside Pier which is exactly where we headed. We brought the girls scooters because it was easy enough to just throw in the car!
Once we got to the pier we walked all the way down, watched the surfers, fishermen, and took in the breathtaking views.
How trippy is the ocean? Standing right on top of it, I literally could have watched the waves for hours!
On our walk home, we watched the sun go down and took our time stopping to pet dogs, take pictures and take it all in.
Another amazing day in the books.
The following morning we had just a few hours to enjoy before we made our way back to LA. I started the morning with a little work by the ocean. The most ideal of situations if you ask me. I wish I could do that every single day!
The girls hung out and ate some breakfast.
And then I went for a quick run to top off the weekend.
It was the most relaxing 48 hours and exactly what our family needed after months of traveling, back-to-school and the Jewish holidays. I would highly recommend this VRBO listing to anyone looking for a quick getaway to relax and clear your head.
Here’s a few more snaps of the place. I hope you check it out and have to opportunity to stay there!
