30-Minute Light & Fluffy Garlic Turmeric Rice
With less than 5 minutes of hands-on time, this Light and Fluffy Garlic Turmeric Rice will become a weekly staple in your kitchen. It’s packed with flavor and works as a great base or side with almost any meal.
I’ve been making this recipe for years, ever since I first saw my friend Jenny from Cook and Savor make it on her Instagram. I made my own version and absolutely fell in love with it because I love the idea of using pantry staples and making something unique and delicious out of typically boring rice.
Ingredients you need
The good news is, you probably have most, if not all of the ingredients already in your kitchen!
- Jasmine rice (or Basmati)
- Water (or chicken stock)
- Salt
- Pepper
- Garlic Powder
- Turmeric
- Butter
This rice would be amazing with so many main dishes. Use it as a base for my Weeknight Balsamic Grilled Chicken, or if you’re more of a steak person try it with my Balsamic Grilled Steak.
Some people shy away from the earthy flavor of turmeric but I promise the flavor is balanced out by the additional spices and the creaminess of the butter.
Steps to make Garlic Turmeric Rice
- Bring water to a boil
- Once boiling, add all of the ingredients
- Cover and simmer for 15 minutes
- Turn off heat and let steam for an additional 10 minutes
The end result is a soft, light and fluffy rice that is packed with flavor with little to no effort at all. My kinda dish!
If you want to add even more flavor to this rice, you can use a low sodium chicken or vegetable stock instead of water. This is a great trick when cooking grains such as rice, quinoa or farro.
I know you’ll love adding this recipe into the rotation. It’s sure to become an easy weeknight staple.

This is a great rice recipe, thank you!
I used bone broth instead of water & it is just so good. I make it weekly to pair with protein.
Glad you love it!

Amazing!
I don’t know why I waited so long to try this recipe! This rice is the best most flavorful side dish to any main meal! Today we are having it with Caesar salad and oven baked chicken tenders. I see myself using this alongside turkey meatballs, sausages, seafood, really anything! It is so yummy!
Thank you Katie! Sounds like I’m coming over for dinner!
She did it again! Laney, this is so fantastic! I have never had turmeric but you posted this one day with meatballs and I had to recreate. Definitely going into the rotation! Also, our family agrees Jasmine rice is where it’s at.
Jasmine rice for the win!
Turned out perfectly and super tasty! Will definitely make again!!
So glad you loved it!
I have been serving this with roasted vegetables mixed with the Greek Chickpeas from Trader Joe’s since I saw your Instagram story. It’s such a delicious combination! This rice comes out fluffy and perfect every time.
