How To Make A Detox Smoothie With Apple And Spinach
Prepare the ingredients: Wash the fruit and vegetables with cold water to remove any impurities. Core and chop the apple. Chop the cucumber into small pieces.
Layer and blend the smoothie: To the blender, add the spinach, almond milk, and banana and blend until smooth. Then, add the apple, cucumber, dates, flax seeds, and lemon juice. Pulse a few times to break up the ingredients, then blend for 1-2 minutes until smooth. Add ice and blend for an additional minute.
Pour, garnish and serve: Pour the smoothie into glasses and top with desired toppings. Enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- For best results, use a high-speed blender such as a Vitamix or KitchenAid . This will ensure the smoothie is a perfect consistency.
- When adding the solid ingredients, pulse the blender first in order to break up the ingredients before blending.
- For a thinner smoothie, you can add more almond milk or water to the blender while blending.
- The amount of ice you use depends on how thick or thin you want your smoothie. Start with a few cubes and add more until desired consistency is reached.
Variations
- Try using different greens such as kale, chard, or romaine lettuce for a change of taste.
- Cows milk or dairy milk can be used instead of almond milk.
- If you’re looking for a sweeter smoothie, add more dates or honey to the blender before blending.
- If you don’t have flax seeds on hand, use chia seeds or hemp hearts as a great alternative.
- Instead of apples, use green grapes, green pears, or green apples for a sweeter flavor.
- For a boost of protein, add a scoop of collagen powder or your favorite plant-based protein powder.

Hi,
I have been using banana, low fat yoghurt, spinach and oats. Is this ok? Twice a day and one big meal at night
Laney Schwartz
If that works for you, then great!

Hello, Aren’t milk and lemon inherently opposing flavors? I come from Indian culture and we use Lemon in Milk to make cottage cheese. These opposing flavors can cause damage to the body in the long term.
Laney Schwartz
Hi Ria! There is no milk used in this recipe, only almond milk and have had no issues

I swapped the splash of lemon with a pinch of cinnamon. It was so good I put it in a wine glass, lit a candle and listened to soft jazz as I drank it. 🙂

This has such a nice balance of flavors. Even though I don’t like cucumber, I loved it in this! Thanks so much for the recipe! I used frozen spinach in my Vitamix instead of the ice cubes and just needed a bit more almond milk to make up for the missing fluid. I’d also love to try adding some ginger to this sometime. I’ll definitely be making this again!

I used bottled water instead of milk and I added ginger, honey and cinnamon. (Just a dash of each) I also substituted the banana and added dates. I had some collagen that I had ordered from Vitauthority I added that as well. So much energy it was ahhmazing. Thank you for your tips. ☺️

Just tried it! I am so tired of feeling terrible and sure do hope this helps. How often are you supposed to drink this??
Life is but a Dish
There’s no rule as to how often to drink this. But I imagine if you drink this a few times a week it will certainly help you feel a bit better! I make this and/or another green smoothie 3-4 times a week. It’s an easy way to get in some greens!
