Did you know that bananas have magic powers?

Did you know that when you blend a frozen banana for a few minutes that it turns into ice cream?

bananaicecreamICE CREAM!!! Did you hear what I said?  Blending a frozen banana TURNS INTO ICE CREAM!!!

And when you add a spoonful of peanut butter to the the blended frozen banana…

bananaicecream-2You get banana peanut butter ice cream.  Truly, it’s a miracle if you ask me.

    Literally, it couldn’t be simpler.

bananaicecream-3I know. It’s blows my mind too.

One (or Two) Ingredient Banana Peanut Butter Ice Cream

    • Yield: 2 1x
    Print Recipe
    Pin Recipe

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 2 ripe bananas (sliced and frozen)
    • 1 tablespoon of peanut butter

    Instructions

    1. 1) In a strong blender or mini food processor, add the sliced, frozen banana. Pulse the mixture, scraping down the sides occasionally until smooth and creamy.
    2. 2) Add the peanut butter and pulse until combined. You can serve immediately (ice cream will be soft), or put in a freezer safe container and freeze for later.

    Notes

    * Recipe can easily be doubled, or tripled! Just use a bigger food processor!
    * The banana will go through different stages. First, it will become somewhat chalky and grainy. Scrape down sides and keep blending. Next it will be become gooey. Keep scraping and blending. Finally after a few minutes the gooey mixture will turn into a creamy frozen treat! It’s delicious on its own, but I love the addition of peanut butter!
    * Also try any of these additions…
    chocolate chips
    honey
    almond butter
    cocoa powder
    peanuts
    cashews

I made this a few minutes ago with 2 bananas and the peanut butter. Yum! What a great healthy dessert and what a great way to use ripe bananas if you don’t want to heat up the house and make banana bread. Thanks for the recipe!

I just made this and it really has the consistency of a normal ice cream, it’s amazing. It’s very sweet as it is, so no need to add anything sweet. I want to make this a million times with different flavours and toppings.

Do you know if something else could be used instead of the peanut butter? I told my mom about this and she got excited but she can’t get PB (or any other nut butter) where she lives. I told her maybe peanuts, if she can get them to blend really well, but I was wondering if you had any other suggestions. Thanks!

She could use anything she wants! The banana is perfectly delicious on its own without the peanut butter! But she could also do a sunflower butter, or just mix in any other topping she likes! I personally love to mix in mini chocolate chips 🙂

I’ve been making this for ages – always a big hit – I’ve added all sorts of goodies into the mix – but a quick word of caution – be mindful of the liquid content of the additions – too wet and you’ll end up with a smoothie instead of ice cream -or you’ll have to stick it all back in the freezer and them quickly back in the food processor just before serving to get the right texture.
As for mangos – follow the slice-freeze-puree instructions – they will eventually get very smooth but not creamy – more of a sorbet than ice cream.
The Grands are fans of any fresh, fruity cold treat here on the edge of the Pacific – and thats a good thing. Enjoy!!

Wow! This sounds really good!! Definitely going to try this out sometime. Would frozen mango work as well for this recipe? 🙂

I’ve never tried with mango! Perhaps you could add mango to the banana and it should be good! But not sure if you used the mango alone that it would create the same consistency.

With the price of ice cream these days, I will definitely be trying this. Also, better for those with diabetes, none of those “no sugar added substitutes”. Thanks so much for this tip!
