I’ve made a few different homemade hummus recipes in the past, but I hadn’t dialed in on a simple, straightforward recipe…until now! This is The Best 5-Minute Blender Hummus and I love that it’s as easy as measuring ingredients into the blender.

Hummus is also a really great way to add plant-based protein to a vegetarian meal since chickpeas, or garbanzo beans, are high in protein (over 20 grams in one can!). This easy recipe is one of my favorites to keep in the refrigerator since everyone loves snacking on it with pita chips or sliced veggies!

Ingredients in Blender Hummus

This ingredient list is really similar to my Roasted Garlic Hummus, but even simpler! I kept this recipe very basic so you can add extras or garnishes, use it as a side with Coconut Rice and Roasted Root Vegetables, or enjoy it as a classic dip.

  • Chickpeas – Canned chickpeas, also called garbanzo beans, are an affordable pantry staple. Make sure to drain and rinse your chickpeas before tossing them in the blender. No need to remove the skins; I promise it’ll be extra creamy without the extra step.
  • Tahini – Tahini is a paste made from sesame seeds! It adds a slightly nutty flavor that balances the more neutral chickpeas really well.
  • Lemon juice – Fresh is best! I only needed the juice from half of a lemon to perfectly balance the more savory flavors in this Blender Hummus.
  • Garlic – I used a small garlic clove to keep the flavor more mild. If your cloves are larger, I suggest starting with a half of one and then adding more if you want!
  • Salt – Start with one teaspoon, then taste and adjust as needed.
  • Ice water – This is the trick to making really smooth hummus in the blender! Don’t add the ice cubes, just make sure your water is ice cold!

How to Make Hummus in the Blender

Making hummus at home is actually super simple! Just measure the ingredients into your high-speed blender and run it until they’re totally smooth. In my Vitamix this took about a minute! You could also use a food processor if you have one. I like to garnish the finished product with fresh parsley, a drizzle of high-quality olive oil, and a sprinkle of paprika for color!
