Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownie Trifle
Layers of fudgy boxed brownies, break-and-bake cookies, silky chocolate pudding, and cloud light homemade whipped cream make this cookie brownie trifle an unforgettable crowd-pleasing dessert.

If you know me at all, you know I’m all about simple desserts. Simple as in, no fancy ingredients and no complicated techniques. Give me a cookie, a brownie, some pudding, maybe a little ice cream, and I’m happy. And honestly? This might be the best dessert I’ve ever made. Ever.
You’d expect it to be too heavy or way too sweet, but somehow it’s not. It’s rich without being overwhelming and indulgent without being over the top. It just… works. Every single time I bring this to a party, people lose their minds and immediately ask for the recipe. And I always laugh a little, because it’s almost embarrassing how easy it is.
We’re Using

- Boxed brownies – or store bought (or homemade if you’re feeling extra)
- Break-and-bake cookies – or store bought (or homemade if you’re still feeling extra)
- Store-bought pudding because it’s already perfect
- Homemade whipped cream because this is where the upgrade happens
That last one matters. The whipped cream is what keeps this from tasting like a grocery store dessert. It lightens everything, balances the sweetness, and makes the whole trifle feel fresher and less heavy.
This isn’t about cutting corners. It’s about choosing where effort actually changes the result. If you change nothing else, keep the whipped cream homemade. It’s the difference between “fun dessert” and “really good dessert.”

The first time I had this was over ten years ago when a friend brought it to a get-together. I’ll be honest, I didn’t think I was going to like it. It sounded like too much. Too rich, too sweet, too over the top. Man, was I wrong!
She made hers with Kit Kat instead of cookies and Cool Whip instead of whipped cream, and it was still SO good and it really stuck with me. Over time, I started making my own version, tweaking it to fit my style, and that’s how this version was born.
Impossible to Mess Up

IMPORTANT: Make sure the brownies and cookies are COMPLETELY cool before you begin layering. If they’re at all warm, the whole thing will melt into a giant mess.
The Whipped Cream Is Non-Negotiable (in my opinion)

Cool Whip works. I’ve used it. This is better.
Homemade whipped cream:
- Isn’t overly sweet
- Doesn’t leave that artificial aftertaste
- Holds up beautifully in the fridge
- Makes the whole dessert taste fresher (somehow)
It takes about three minutes and changes the entire trifle. This is where your “store-bought” dessert suddenly feels fancy, but it’s not.
A Dessert That Gets Better Sitting in the Fridge
This trifle is actually better after being in the fridge overnight. DO NOT RUSH THE PROCESS. Give it an overnight rest to really blend the flavors and come together.
The brownies and cookies soften slightly, but the chocolate chips keep their crunch. The pudding settles.
The flavors blend without losing texture. It turns into some sort of magic.

And, it feeds a crowd. Like, actually 20 people. No need for anything else. I’ve never met someone who doesn’t go back for more. Have fun with this one!

Description
Layers of fudgy boxed brownies, break-and-bake cookies, silky chocolate pudding, and cloud light homemade whipped cream make this cookie brownie trifle an unforgettable crowd-pleasing dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 batch of your favorite brownies, (homemade or boxed is great)
- 1 batch of your favorite chocolate chip cookies, (homemade or Break & Bake keeps it easy)
- 5 ½ – 6 cups chocolate pudding (I use two, 22oz containers of KozyShack)
FOR THE WHIPPED CREAM
- 1 pint heavy whipping cream
- 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Using the directions on the box or using your favorite homemade recipe, make the brownies and cookies. Let cool completely. (Can do this step the day before)
- Make the whipped cream. Using a stand mixer or a large bowl with a hand mixer, add the heavy whipping cream and whisk for a few minutes on medium speed until it starts to thicken. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla and whisk until stiff peaks form.
- In the trifle dish begin to layer ingredients. Start with 1/4 of the brownies, breaking them up with your hands. Next, a layer of pudding, a layer of whipped cream, and a layer of crumbled cookies. Repeat layers until the trifle dish is almost full and top it off with extra crumbled brownies and cookies.
- Cover and put in the fridge overnight and serve chilled.
