Amazing Baked Salmon With Dill Sauce
This Amazing Baked Salmon with Dill Sauce is the ultimate quick and flavorful fish that can be served with a variety of sides. The magic happens with a zesty tahini mustard dressing and a handful of fresh dill, creating a sauce so good you’ll want to drizzle it on everything!
Sometimes I hit a home run with a recipe, like I did with my Tahini Mustard Dressing, and now I’m showing you how it can be used in another dish! This simple dressing has taken the internet by storm and it deserves a spot not only as a salad dressing, but as a sauce as well!
For this recipe, I decided to take the dressing up a notch by adding a generous amount of fresh dill, which brings a bright, herby touch and complements the fish so well. As a busy home cook, I’m always looking for ways to get dinner on the table, quickly, without sacrificing flavor. And oops, I did it again!
What’s the best type of salmon for baking?
Not all salmon is created equal. In my house we love a mild, fatty salmon which typically means we’re using Scottish or Atlantic Salmon. If your family typically doesn’t like salmon, maybe try a different type! That can make all the difference as some wild caught salmon has a fishier flavor.
Ingredient Notes
- Whole Grain Mustard – This type of mustard adds a tangy, slightly spicy kick to the sauce while also giving it a great texture with its whole mustard seeds.
- Tahini – Creamy, nutty, and rich, tahini balances out the sharpness of the mustard with its smooth texture and earthy flavor.
- Salt – A pinch of salt enhances all the flavors.
- White Balsamic Vinegar – This vinegar adds a subtle sweetness and a mild acidity that brightens up the entire dish.
- Olive Oil – Brings a smooth richness to the sauce, helping to emulsify the ingredients and add a silky finish.
- Fresh Dill – Adds a burst of herby freshness that pairs perfectly with the rich salmon, giving the sauce a bright, aromatic flavor.
- Salmon Filet – Salmon is buttery and flaky, and its rich flavor is ideal for the bold, tangy dill sauce.
Step By Step Instructions
Prepare for baking: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking and to make cleanup easier!
Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the whole-grain mustard, tahini, salt, white balsamic vinegar, and olive oil until well combined.
Add the dill: Stir in the finely chopped fresh dill to the mustard mixture. For a smoother sauce, you can also blend it until it reaches your desired consistency.
Prepare the salmon: Place the salmon fillet on the prepared sheet pan. Spoon the dill sauce generously over the top, making sure it’s evenly coated.
Bake the salmon: Transfer the sheet pan to the preheated oven. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
Serve and enjoy: Once baked, serve the salmon with extra dill sauce on the side. Enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Pat the salmon dry before adding the sauce – This helps the sauce stick better to the fish, giving you that perfect, flavorful coating.
- Use a meat thermometer to check doneness – Salmon is perfectly cooked at an internal temperature of 145°F, but if you prefer it a bit less done, aim for 135-140°F for a more tender, medium texture.
- Let the salmon rest for a few minutes before serving – This allows the juices to redistribute, keeping the fish moist and tender.
- Don’t overcook the salmon – Keep an eye on the time and temperature, as overcooked salmon can become dry and lose its buttery texture.
What to serve it with?
Salmon with dill sauce pairs amazingly well with this Coconut Rice or these Lemony Roast Potatoes, just depends on your mood! Steam or roast some broccoli or add a simple side salad and you’re golden.
Storage Instructions
Storing: Store any leftover salmon in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Keep the dill sauce separate if possible.
Freezing: To freeze, place the cooked salmon in a freezer-safe container or wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and then in foil. The salmon can be frozen for up to 3 months, but large amounts of sauce do not freeze well!
Reheating: Reheat the salmon in a preheated oven at 300°F for about 10-15 minutes, or until warmed through. If reheating from frozen, allow the salmon to thaw in the fridge overnight first.
