Shredded Chicken Parmesan Sliders

Using homemade shredded chicken for parmesan chicken sliders makes them simpler and more enjoyable to eat. Unlike whole chicken pieces or tenders, shredded chicken provides a tender, evenly spread filling in each bite, making the sliders easier to handle. This method also helps the chicken mix better with the marinara sauce and cheeses, creating a balanced flavor in every mouthful without the mess of eating larger chicken pieces.

These sliders are great for almost any occasion, from family dinners and parties to game nights and BBQs. They’re easy to eat while socializing and can be served with a variety of sides like herb roasted potatoes, Caesar salad, or grilled veggies

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Slider Buns – Serve as the base and top of the sliders, providing a soft, slightly sweet platform that complements the savory fillings inside. You can use any brand you enjoy. I love using St. Pierre!
  • Shredded Chicken – Absorbs the marinara sauce and combine with the cheeses. You can make your own in the slow cooker or shred a rotisserie chicken if you’re short on time.
  • Marinara Sauce – Adds a rich, tangy tomato flavor that moistens the shredded chicken and brings the classic Italian taste to the sliders.
  • Dried Oregano – Infuses the dish with a hint of herbal aroma and depth, enhancing the overall flavor profile of the sliders.
  • Grated Mozzarella Cheese – Melts beautifully over the chicken, adding a stretchy, gooey texture and a mild, creamy taste.
  • Grated Parmesan Cheese – Provides a salty, nutty flavor to the sliders that pair well with the other ingredients. This gets used on the chicken as well as on top of the slider buns before baking.
  • Melted Butter – Used to brush the tops of the buns, giving them a rich, golden finish and a delicious buttery flavor that rounds out the sliders.
  • Garlic Powder – Mixes with the melted butter to create a garlicky topping that adds a punch of flavor.

Prepare for baking: Preheat the oven to 350F degrees. Grease a 9×13 baking dish for the slider rolls, or use a sheet pan.

Cut the slider rolls: Use a large sharp knife to slice the rolls in half lengthwise to get two large sheets. Place the bottom layer on the bottom of the greased baking sheet.

Assemble the chicken parmesan: Add the shredded chicken to a mixing bowl along with the marinara and oregano. Toss to fully combine, then spoon the chicken mixture over the top of the slider rolls. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese followed by parmesan cheese, then place the top layer of bread on top of the chicken and cheese.

Add garlic butter: Mix the melted butter with garlic powder until fully combined. Lightly brush the mixture on top of the slider buns, then sprinkle the remaining grated parmesan on top in an even layer.

Bake and enjoy: Cover the sandwiches with foil, and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Remove the foil, then bake for an additional 3-5 minutes or until the tops are lightly browned. Cut the sandwiches into individual sliders and serve while hot. Enjoy!

How can I keep the slider buns from getting soggy?

Helpful Recipe Tips

  • For easy slicing, use a serrated knife to slice the slider buns in half horizontally to prevent tearing and maintain their shape.
  • Shred the chicken finely to ensure it distributes evenly and soaks up the sauce well.
  • Cover the sliders with foil before baking to keep the moisture in, preventing them from drying out and ensuring the cheese melts evenly.
  • Bake the sliders until the cheese is fully melted, then remove the foil and bake for a few more minutes to get a slightly crispy, golden top. Keep an eye on them, as they can burn.
  • Serve the sliders immediately while they’re still warm and the cheese is melted for the best taste and texture.

Flavor Variations and Substitutions

  • Add slices of pepperoni or cooked Italian sausage beneath the cheese layer for an added spicy kick and meatier bite.
  • Add a layer of fresh spinach or basil leaves on top of the chicken mixture before adding the cheese for a pop of color and freshness.
  • Use slices of fresh mozzarella instead of grated mozzarella for a creamier texture and a more pronounced cheese flavor.
  • Sprinkle red pepper flakes on top of the cheese before baking for a kick of spice.

Reheating: To reheat refrigerated sliders, place them on a baking sheet and cover with foil. Warm in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-15 minutes or until heated through.
